Project description
LOCALY has been designed to provide young people with the necessary tools to tackle and expand local environmental action. Through methods of experimental and non-formal learning, it will equip groups of young people (YP) with an innovative skill set and support them in designing their community-based projects.
Implementation
15 young people from 4 different countries will be directly trained before spreading out their acquired knowledge to 5 groups of YP, indefinitely widening the impact of the project to more youth organisations.
The toolkit will not only provide YP with the competence for designing small-scale environmental projects; it will also accompany the groups through their whole designing process: from imagining the project to enacting it as well as drawing conclusions on possible improvements to implement or positive outcomes to reproduce.
Outcome
By promoting civic engagement and youth entrepreneurship through community-centred actions, this project will impact local populations and local policy makers thus enabling broader dialogues and exchange of ideas between communities.
LOCALY will empower YP to creatively design their own climate actions by supporting them through competence building, imagining and enacting their ideas as well as encouraging problem identification and solution development.
Partners
LOCALY has been thought out and designed as a transnational project; it has been developed by 5 organisations from 4 different countries (Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece) which have worked hand in hand to make this project a reality.

Project update:
From the 7th to the 13th of July 2024 the LOCALY training took place in the beautiful region of Asturias, Spain.
18 youth workers travelling from Greece, Germany, Italy and Spain and a team of 3 trainers gathered at the Monasterio de Santa Maria de Valdedios to take part in this project.
Based on the LOCALY toolkit and on team-building exercises, the participants worked together as a group, shared their experiences and familiarised themselves with diverse techniques aimed at supporting YP into creating their community-based environmental project.
Outline of the training by a participant:
During the first day of the training, community care groups to attend to the wellbeing of the participants in the venue as well as reflection groups to share experiences and thoughts at the end of each day were introduced. During this first day, we focused on the values of youth work, and we carried out an outdoor exploration of the area.
On the second day we executed several activities and techniques of the LOCALY toolkit. We were brought closer together by sharing our common values and connecting them with our feelings about climate change. We studied and implemented the systems thinking theory into our reflection and future activities in youth work projects.
The third day was highlighted by a guided tour of the monastery close to our venue. We shared our professional experiences and engaged in a dynamic roleplay activity: embodying citizens facing environmental and social challenges.
During the fourth and the fifth day, we focused on the implementation part of the LOCALY project. After 3 different methods for creating a project were presented to us by the trainers, we started working on the creation of a fictive project in groups before presenting our ideas. Finally, we concluded the training by envisioning and planning our next steps of the LOCALY project after the training.
